February 2010The weather is certainly causing havoc with a number of fixtures all over the country lost during the cold snap. This has resulted in us having less runners than what we would have liked but the good news is the horses have not missed any work and those which have been running have run with a lot of credit.
Allbarkanobite made her debut in a National Hunt race at Catterick on February 5th. She is a lovely strapping filly and hopefully one with a good long term future. She made a particularly pleasing debut finishing 3rd and her jockey Richie McGrath was very happy with her. She has returned in good heart and will be re-appearing very soon.
Stopped Out made the journey to Sandown on the 19th February to contest a very warm 2 Mile 4 Furlongs handicap hurdle. It was a great opportunity for many of his partners in The Well Oiled Syndicate to see him at the races as they are based in London. He ran a great race and was contesting the lead when he was bought down at the last by a falling horse. This was such a shame as he ran and jumped so well but fortunately, both horse and jockey were fine.
Royal Flynn continues to run with credit, he seems to have developed a good bond with our stable amateur Henry Brooke. He will hopefully get his head in front shortly although he isn't receiving much help from the handicapper.
The yard have had a winner in February as Pen Gwen won the confined race at the Sinnington Point to Point under Henry Brooke. After initially deciding to sell him as a riding horse, I had a change of heart and have kept him for Henry and Kate in the yard to ride. As a good jumper he is ideal for them to gain experience and they deserve the chance as they work very hard in the yard. He was given a good ride by Henry jumping off in front and leading from start to finish.
At home, the horses seem in good heart and we are praying that racing will be on this week. We have intended runners at Newcastle on Saturday and we are hoping that we have some rain between now and then. Morgan Be is hopefully going to run in the Eider Chase a race in which he finished 2nd in last year and Jimmy Bond in the 2 Mile 4 Furlongs Chase. We have been trying to vary their work slightly to keep them enjoying life during this cold snap and have taken them to the local beach we have also have been going to use different gallops. Earlier in the week we will hopefully have runners at Doncaster including Crop Walker is intended to make his seasonal debut he is a horse who has shown a great deal of promise in his previous runs but is very fragile and has only had a handful of races (we are not telling him of our plans to run!!!) his owner Irvine Lynch has been very patient with him.
The flat team and summer jumpers are now all back in full work and are progressing nicely. Embsay Crag and Unawatuna are pleasing at home and should be ready for the start of the flat turf. We are also looking forward to Fantastic Sam for the Suffolk Punch Parternship and Honest Buck to make their debuts, both of these horses were in training as 2yos but grew so much that we decided to give them time to mature. They have come back much stronger and are doing very well.
I would also like to say that the team are delighted to welcome a couple of new additions and owners for the flat season ahead.
