April/May News
For many of the horses in the yard their summer breaks have arrived and they are now enjoying a well earned break within the fields. The recent warm weather has been appreciated by all horses and humans!!!
Due to many of the horses having their holidays and the flat team not been quite ready yet we have been fairly quiet on the runner’s front.
However, recent runners have included Royal Flynn who ran a great race to finish 2nd on the flat at Haydock Park. He has been slightly unlucky through the winter as things haven’t gone his way and it was good for him to run such a solid race.
Stormy Journey also returned to action at Catterick and needed to have the run to take the fizz out of him as he was too fresh. He will improve for the outing.
I’m pleased to say that Nevertika didn’t incur any serious injuries when he fell at Perth. Ground depending he will hopefully return to action over hurdles in the next couple of weeks in a confidence boosting run. He has been a great horse this season winning 3 chases in a row.
Both Super Revo and Queen of Diamonds ran at Hexham on Saturday 11th May. This was Super Revo’s first outing for over 100 days and he ran in the 3 mile Handicap Chase he ran a good solid race only to get tired in the last furlong. He now heads to Doncaster Sale on Wednesday 21st May and we believe he will sell/make a fantastic point to pointer/hunter chaser. Queen of Diamonds also ran on the same card. She has been running consistently all year but unfortunately nearly got knocked over in her race and after this was never very happy. We are pleased to report that she was fine the next day although a little stiff.
Although the majority of the horses are on holiday we do have a small team of horses for a summer jumping campaign and a handful of promising flat horses to look forward too we will keep you informed on their progress.
On other fronts I attended a dinner in Harrogate on Tuesday 13th May organized by Haydock Park Racecourse to discuss their race program and fixtures. They must be commended for their efforts to seek input from trainers finding out what we want to suit horses, owners, trainers and staff. I do feel that this is a top class organization and we will continue to have as many runners there as possible.
I will also be heading to the sales at Doncaster this month both to the Horses in Training sale and the Store Horse sale. The sales are always an interesting time and I will be on the look out for some new horses and hopefully potential winners. I am currently considering the idea of developing a Racing Partnership made up of probably 10 shares in which partners would make a one off payment (either via a lump sum or monthly installments). This payment would cover the purchase of 2/3 horses, training fees and all entries and transport to the races etc for 12 months. If anyone would be interested in this idea please do not hesitate to contact me.
On the staff front Shane Cuddy returned back home to Ireland on Friday 9th May. Shane has been a great asset over the past 18 months and we wish him all the best for the future. Becky is also away on holiday at the moment in Jamaica we are obviously paying her too much!!! We also welcome back Hannah after her shoulder injury.
