August-October News
The month of August saw Kate Walton heading the table of hot trainers in the racing post having 3 winners out of 4 runners and a 75% strike rate. The winners started to roll with a double at Market Rasen on the 16th August courtesy of Breaking Storm and Still at Lunch.
Breaking Storm took the honours in the 2 miles 4 furlongs Handicap under the steering of the very useful claimer Campbell Gillies. He was to continue this good form by finishing second on his next outing and then going on to win again on the 02nd September at Sedgefield over 2 miles 6 furlongs on the 23rd September. He is really proving to be a cracking little horse for his owners having won or been placed on over 50% of his runs. The main problem which he may face now is his rising mark in the handicap.
Still at lunch also broke his duck over hurdles at Market Rasen on the 16th August. Having previously won a bumper he had shown some good efforts over hurdles and we were delighted that he opened his account under the guidance of Richie McGrath.
A special mention must go to the victory of Queen of Diamonds at Cartmel on the 25th August. Paul and Tracey Aynsley have been great owners over the last 5 years but have not had the greatest of luck with their previous horses and have waited along time for their first victory. The the whole team were delighted for them and Queen of Diamonds when she won at Cartmel. She has often been in the frame and more than deserved her first victory, she made it look easy aswell winning by 14 lengths. Unfortunately the handicapper was also impressed by her winning margin and rose her by a hefty 13 pounds.
Sitting Tennant made a very promising return back to action following his summer break to finish a close 2nd at Kelso on the 05th October. This looked a decent bumper with previous winners in the race. Richie McGrath was delighted with his performance and thought that if he had been slightly more relaxed earlier would probably have won.
The flat team have also been running well over the past couple of months. Since been stepped up in trip Unawatuna has really started to blossom and seems to appreciate some cut in the ground which is probably a good job considering the summer which we have had. She ran a really gallant race at Newcastle on the 01st October to finish 2nd under Kelly Harrison only been beaten 1/4 length. She has since gone on to frank this effort by finishing 3rd at Pontefract on the 20th October. She will now go home for a well earned rest which will also enable her to strengthen up.
Embsay Crag has also performed well over the last couple of months. He had shown good efforts in his 3 maiden runs and ran in his first nursery at Pontefract on the 20th October. He ran a encouraging race and was only beaten 6 1/2 lengths considering he was bumped at the start and meet with traffic problems in the race this was a very good effort.
Back at the stable all of the jumpers are back in full time work and we will see some familiar faces appearing over the next couple of weeks such as Huka Lodge, Nevertika, Jimmy Bond, Morgan Be, Royal Fylnn and Its A Roofer. We also have some new kids on the block that we are really looking forward to seeing in action.
On the staff side we have said Goodbye to Christine Munro who has moved North to start a livery business with her boyfriend ex falt jockey Keith Dagleish and we have said hello to Ryan who as joined us straight from the Northern Racing College. He has fit into the team exceptionally well and is very entusiastic and very capable with the horses. We would also like to congratulate Hannah who successfully completed the Great North Run.
