March News
The horses have continued to run well and in bottomless ground carrying top weight Jimmy Bond secured victory at Ayr on Saturday 8th March. This was a well deserved victory as he has been very conistentent all year and will now probably head to the Scottish Grand National Meeting.
Following his run at Carlisle on Saturday 22nd March Huka Lodge is now on his summer holidays. He has been another relaible servant through the year winning the Last Fling Chase but now the ground has started to dry out he will have a well earned rest in the field which he is thoroughly enjoying although he is looking slight more bay than grey!!
Breaking Storm who likes the ground on the faster side returned from his break to put in a fine display of jumping to finish second at Sedgefield on Tuesday 25th March. Richie McGrath was extremely happy with him. The day was very overcast with the sad news that we lost Star of the Desert in the Handicap Hurdle. He will be sadly missed in the yard and especially by our head girl Rebecca Howell as he was one of her favourites.
Queen of Diamonds also returned after her winter break to run a very creditable race to finish third at Wetherby on Tuesday 1st April. She was given a fine ride by James Reveley who will hopefully ride her again in a conditional jockeys race at Newcastle on Monday 14th April. Also making his debut on the same card was Sitting Tennant in the National Hunt Flat Race he ran extremely well and was only beaten about 4 lengths. This was a great introduction for the horse who is a big baby and still has alot of growing to do.
Our amateur rider Henry Brooke has made a successful start to his Point to Point career, his own horse Pikachu Blue has finished second twice and a was a very close third in the Grimthorpe Cup on Sunday 5th April. Henry is also gaining valuable experience on our stable stalwart Billie John. He was the first horse that Kate had in her yard and is still as game as ever at the tender age of 13. He has been running well in Point to Points but will be aimed at a Hunter Chase over 2 Miles 4 Furlongs at Sedgefield in May.
We will hopefully have quite a few runners within the next 10 days starting with Masterjoe at Carlisle on Thursday 9th April we will keep you updated on their progress.
