When it rains it
pours!
With no runners since May 11th, the yard was drawn in three
directions on the 20th with 1 runner at Kelso, 2 runners at
Sedgefield and Sitting Tennant and Queen of Diamonds going to
Doncaster Horses in Training Sale.
Sitting Tennant was heading to Doncaster sales following his
victory in the Champion Bumper at the Aintree Grand National Meeting
previously purchased by Kate for £3,000 he was sold for a
staggering £160,000 to Graham Wylie and Howard Johnson. He will be
sadly missed at the yard as he was our first graded winner but also
he was a lovely horse to be around. We wish Graham and Howard the
very best of luck with him and hope he continues to be successful at
such a high level.
Queen of Diamonds was also sold to a lady to be a school master
for Point to Pointing she has been a fun horse for the yard and her
highlight was when she won at Cartmel she will be greatly
missed by the yard and by her owners Paul and Tracey Aynsley.
On the runners front, It's A Roofer was flying the flag for
the yard at Kelso and ran in the feature race of the day the 2 Mile
6 Furlongs Handicap Hurdle. It was a very competitive race and
the ground was slightly softer than he prefers but he ran a very
gallant race to finish 3rd. Since he has returned he has run two
very solid races and he will now be schooled over fences and is
likely to be seen next Novice Chasing.
Royal Flynn and Galapagos Islands ran at Sedgefield in
the evening. Royal Flynn ran in the 2 Mile 4 Furlongs
Handicap Hurdle this is the furthest that he has ever run over. He
travelled well throughout the race and turning for home looked like
he was the likely winner however the extra distance just caught him
out and he faded after the last to finish 5th.
Still At Lunch
repaid his enthusiastic owners the Well Oiled Partnership by winning
at Kelso on May 6th. Given a positive ride from Richie McGrath
he fought off challengers from all sides and stayed on strongly
to win by a couple of lengths. The race was run at a good pace
and it was a really pleasing effort by him. He will continue to run
over the summer months due to him enjoying the better ground and
will hopefully continue to provide lots of fun.
The flat team have burst into action over the last couple of
weeks and have been running with much credit. Unawatuna ran a
very gallant race on her seasonal reappearance to finish second at
Ripon on May 8th she has strengthened up since running last season
and we where over the moon with her run. The first two pulled clear
of the rest of the field.
Embsay Crag has also been running well and should hopefully
be back in the winners enclosure shortly.
We will be having a
couple of 2yo runners over the next couple of weeks which we are all looking
forward to.
Most of the winter jumpers are now enjoying their
well deserved summer breaks in the fields and are having a
great time.
April: Aintree winner on Grand National Day!
The
yard's biggest success came on the same card as the world famous
Grand National at Aintree when Sitting Tennant won the Champion
Bumper.
In a very competitive race full of exciting and classy prospects for
the future, he justified taking his chance after very solid
improving form throughout his bumpers this season. He has been
given time to mature and this has been duly rewarded.
It was a great thrill for the whole yard and being on Grand
National Day made the victory all the more enjoyable!
