August
It's A Roofer travelled to Bangor to contest the 2 Mile 4
Furlongs Handicap Chase on Saturday 15th August. Carrying top
weight, he lead from the start of the race, jumped like a buck and
ran an extremely gallant race only to be caught on the line and
finish 2nd. We were delighted with his run if not a little
disappointed to finish so close. He really seems to have taken to
chasing and we are looking forward to getting him out again soon for
his enthusiastic owners.
The majority of the jumpers have returned from their summer breaks
looking very well and rather on the large side they have started
their road work which they require before returning cantering.
Our stable amateur, Henry Brooke, has spent a month working and
gaining experience in France for Mr G Macaire. He had a
fantastic time and has returned having gained an awful lot of
experience and knowledge which will hopefully benefit him in the
season ahead.
July
A fairly quiet month on the runners
front.
Embsay Crag has continued to fly the flag on the flat following
his gallant win in June he was unlucky on the 18th July at Haydock
where he was just beaten over 10 furlongs after making all from the
front. He is a victim of his own consistency though as his
solid efforts have caused the handicapper to keep increasing his
handicap mark.
The versatile Royal Flynn has been getting closer to the winners enclosure with two solid efforts on the flat finishing 4th both times. He will continue to switch between the hurdles and flat.
June
The yard had its first ever runner at Chester when Embsay Crag travelled
there to contest the 1 mile 2 furlongs handicap under Paul Mulrennan.
The visit proved to be very fruitful as the horse won for the second time in his career. He has been running well this this season and the step up in trip from 1 mile to 1 mile 2 furlongs proved the crucial factor in his success. He was drawn very wide which is a disadvantage at Chester but after breaking well from the stalls, Paul gave him a great ride.
The whole team were
delighted for his enthusiastic owners. We will look to get him out
again soon and he may be tried over hurdles in the future.
